Key points about template Privacy Policy
Range of laws affecting privacy policies: This privacy policy assumes that the only law which governs the SMBiT Professional’s personal information management practices is the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) which form part of this Act.
In addition to this Act, there are many other laws and standards of good practice which may impact on an SMBiT Professional’s data management practices. There are, for example:
- Australian State privacy laws affecting the public sector and health records,
- ex-Australian laws (the European GDPR is an example) which may apply to data practices connected with other countries; and
- laws regarding confidential information.
An Australian Privacy Act-compliant privacy policy should not be taken as satisfying any other laws, which may require more or less onerous management practices and approaches.
